山寨剧团不是真的剧团，也不是艺术项目，是比草台班子还草台班子，山寨剧团不是要去”做什么“，有时也是“不做什么”。就像传统的潮剧团，1.表演不是给人看的，表演中也不忘给“太子爷”上香；2.不去饭店吃饭，自带炉灶；3.不住旅馆，自带床铺；4.不吃牛肉**

#What Is a Shanzhai Troupe?

Most art projects begin—or end—with the question of how to do it. Yet more often than not, how to do it is really how to speak about it.

A Shanzhai Troupe is neither a real troupe nor an art project. It is more ramshackle than the most ramshackle traveling band. It is more cheap than the cheapest art，It is not about what to do—sometimes it is about what not to do. Like the traditional Teochew Opera troupes:
1. The performance is not for the audience; in the middle of acting, they still pause to burn incense for the gods or ghosts.
2. They do not dine in restaurants; they carry their own stove.
3. They do not sleep in hotels; they bring their own beds.
4. They do not eat beef.
A Shanzhai Troupe can also simply be the practice of saying "No..."
